GIVE YOUR BURDEN TO GOD

By Nelly Sullivan

Psalm 55:22:
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

There are many different kinds of burdens we carry in life, troubles that can weigh us down. Personally speaking, some of the things that burden me can be little things, like when my hair doesn't look like I want it to even after I work at it. Other burdens I carry can be big things, like my concern that my children keep a relationship with God as they get older, or my worries about my brothers and sisters and their children.

Imagine yourself going through life wearing a backpack. Imagine your cares and worries as weights you add to your pack, some big and some small. How many can you carry before walking becomes a problem?

God wants us to share our burdens with him, and to be sure that we keep in fellowship with him. Whether our burden is big or small, we need to remember that we are not alone, and God is willing to help us bear these burdens, and give us rest.

Why does God want us to give him our cares?

1 Peter 5:7:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

God is just waiting for us to go to him and believe that he is going to take care of us. He wants us to acknowledge him, and to trust him and his Word.

Matthew 11:28:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

You see, God loves us and wants to give us rest. You know how hard it is to be at work when you haven't had a good sleep the night before. We can't function right, and we might make wrong decisions that can cause an even bigger burden in our life. So let us remember that our loving God is willing not only to take care of ALL of our burdens, but also to give us rest. Give to God whatever burden he has placed on you. Don't just push it to the side, and try to forget it. Cast your cares to God. Place yourself in his care too.
