An Answered Prayer

April 29, 2023

To everyone who said even the quickest of prayers for Mike Rutherford, please accept the thanks of all his family and friends. When the doctors got ready to do the procedure, they saw that the condition of his heart was better than they anticipated, and after a stint was inserted, he was back home the same afternoon.

We commonly hear things like, “If God is real, why is there so much suffering in the world?” This is such a foolish question. God, being all-powerful and answerable to no one, has the right to be anything he wants to be. He could treat his creation any way he likes. He could enjoy seeing people suffer, but he promises that this is NOT the case. “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?” (Ezek. 18:23).

So the better question is, “If God is love, why do so many people not experience that love?” The answer is one of faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus bridges the gap between God and sinful man. In all things – not only our salvation – no man comes to the Father but by him (John 14:6).

It’s a terrible reality that as soon as God intervenes on our behalf, the devil whispers in our ear that these good things would have happened anyway, with or without our prayers. Get thee behind me, Satan! We know that good news is far less common than bad news. Things could have “just as easily” gone bad for my friend. I could “just as easily” still be waiting for my passport. Most important, all of us could “just as easily” have had no opportunity for eternal life.

Thank you again for your prayers. But let us remember, the praise does not belong to the one who prays, it belongs to the one who ANSWERS our prayers. Our prayers are just words. But God HEARS and ANSWERS prayer. Thank you, Lord, for your loving intervention in our daily lives!

Have a blessed weekend!
Tim
