My Upcoming Mission to Nepal

September 26, 2017Tim in 1977

I write to you in request that your prayers go with me on my upcoming mission to Nepal. I am leaving for Nepal on Thursday, September 28, arriving on Saturday morning. I will teach a five-day seminar on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit at the Nepal Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kathmandu from 2 to 6 October 2017. I have also been granted the grace to speak on any other subject that I think will be helpful to the students. The officials of the school have rolled out the welcome carpet for me, even to the point of rearranging their curriculum to make room for me. I pledge to do my best to show myself worthy of their trust.

There has never been a time when Christians were in more need of "the comfort of the scriptures" (Romans 15:4). And so, my prayer for my time in Nepal is that I give room to the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ and make known great and eternal truths through the unveiling of his Word. After all, this is what Jesus promised before he ascended:

John 16:13-14:
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

This is the kind of presentation that sparks revival even in the darkest of times.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-8
5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

In an anointed presentation of truth, the part that no man can supply or duplicate is the part that belongs to the Holy Spirit. For this reason I ask you to keep us in your prayers — the school, the students, me, my mission companion Daniel Bucher, and brother Sabdong Tamang who is helping with all the arrangements. We all want this occasion to be special and life-changing in the way an authentic presentation can and should be. Please be so kind as to keep our families in your prayers as well.

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah." (Psalm 68:19)

In the service of His Majesty, the King of kings,
