JESUS PROMISED
ANOTHER COMFORTER AND HOME
By Jay Pearson
Jesus not only promised another Comforter, he promised to prepare a place for us with him. Jesus Christ gathered his disciples and taught them, provided for them, and comforted them while he was with them on this earth. He informed them of his future death and resurrection, and his relationship with them now and later. He also knew they would not understand until all he told them came to pass. This information was recorded in John Chapters 14-17.
While with his disciples, he was their comforter. He explained he would leave them with another comforter.
John 14:15-18
15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus promised he would come to us. He promised he would prepare a place for us and he did. The place he prepared for us is truly out of this world.
John 14:1-3
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
At the end of Chapter 14 we see Jesus doing just that. He was going to pay our debt, and prepare a place for them and us. That place he was preparing was in the heavenlies. It came with a tremendous cost. He gave his life on the Cross for us, paying our debt in full. He rose from the dead, that we might live forever with him.
Ephesians 2:4-6
4
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
How did we get to this place that Jesus prepared for us? Is it our doing? NO.
Colossians 1:12-13
12
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
This may be a little puzzling, but this world is not your home. You are no longer of the world. You are of the heavenlies, spiritually speaking. Yes. That’s your home. Jesus went to prepare a place for us. We have been translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. And now his dear Son has sent us on a mission.
John 17:16-18
16
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
Wow, we are sent from our new heavenly seat in Christ to represent Christ in this world.
2 Corinthians 5:20
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
We are sent to represent Jesus in our life and this world. We are his ambassadors. Do we represent Jesus by not doing this or not doing that? No, we represent Him by our daily living example of Jesus qualities. We also walk in compliance to his commandments. His commandments are not suggestions.
John 13:34
34
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
You don’t witness what you know. You witness who you are in Christ.
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
There are many ways to witness the Savior in our life. If everyone witnessed in the same way, think how many people would remain lost. I know we only plant and water, and then God gives the increase, but all soil is not the same. Some soil takes a little more tender care to receive seed from the Sower. Be and do what God has worked in you.
Romans 12:6-8
6
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Christ went to prepare a place for us. He did that completely. Our home is in heaven, this world is not my home. While in the world Christ provided for us with the Comforter, the Holy Ghost. We are currently on a mission, sent by Christ. He is going to come and gather us up to return to our home.
1 Thessalonians 4:14-18
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
We were seated with Christ in the heavenlies. For now we are sent by Christ, but the promise is, he will gather us together and bring us home. So shall we ever be with the Lord.
AMEN. COMFORT ONE ANOTHER.
