THE FEAR OF THE LORD

By Jay Pearson

How many of you want to be satisfied? I'll say it again while your thoughts take shape. How many of you want to be satisfied? Mick Jagger couldn't get it, but you can. There are three things you truly desire if you are seeking a relationship with The Lord. They are Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding. All three are one.

Wisdom comes from God.
Knowledge is the Word from God.
Understanding is the Revelation from God.
All three are one.

We are going to read today in God's Word how to get all three and to be satisfied.

Proverbs 2:1:
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

To receive is to accept and to hide is to keep safe.

Proverbs 2:2:
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

To incline your ear is to lean toward so as to hear better or correctly.

To apply your heart is to put into practice what you hear.

Proverbs 2:3:
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

To cry after is to vocally pursue with desire.

To lift up your voice is to speak toward your heavenly Father and Lord with supplication.

Proverbs 2:4:
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

To seek her as silver is to diligently search for an item as of great value.

To search for her as for hid treasures is to dig deep in an effort to uncover. We do not fabricate an interpretation to fit our belief system. We uncover what is there.

Isaiah 33:6:
And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

Proverbs 2:5:
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

When you do the 3 “IF's” in Proverbs 2:1-4 ...

If thou wilt receive my words
If thou criest after knowledge
If thou seekest her as silver

... the Lord promises results!

Proverbs 2:6:
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

The Fear of the Lord: What is it?

Job 28:28:
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Psalm 19:9:
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

Psalm 111:10:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 1:7:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8:13:
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Proverbs 9:10:
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Proverbs 14:26:
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Proverbs 14:27:
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Proverbs 15:33:
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

The Fear of the Lord: What it does

Proverbs 19:23:
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

The fear of the Lord, receive it, abide in it and be satisfied.

Isaiah 8:13:
Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

Amen.
