The Trust We Share,
TRUSTING GOD
By Jay Pearson
Isaiah 26:4:
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
The trust we share, trusting in God, was generated by deliverance. Initially we received deliverance, a gift from God, at the time of our new birth from God and therefore we trust in him.
Colossians 1:13:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Our trusting God was and is generated because of experiential deliverance in our daily lives. Time and time again he delivers us from a multitude of problems. Some we see and realize and others we are not aware of at the time and may never be aware of until we meet him face to face. Through God’s own power and deliverance he has provided us with eternal trust.
A few days ago I was sitting on my porch swing with thoughts racing though my mind. I tried to comprehend not trusting God and it was impossible for me to do, seriously. Sure my faith or believing wavers in many situations. Through my own strength I have tried to accomplish my own deliverance in trying times. If I did accomplish something it was only temporal. Later it would rear its ugly head and I was faced with my wavering faith until I turn to the Lord my deliverer. How could you and I not trust God after all we have experienced in our life of his deliverance. I know you feel this way too. I’m reminded of Peter’s answer to a question from the Lord.
John 6:67-69:
67
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Trusting God is a part of our being, just as the faith of Jesus Christ and the mind of Christ. Not in the old man but in the Christ in you, the holy spirit gift. We can’t go back to that life where trust has not been established. That life does not exist for us anymore. Yes we may act that way at times, but that life does not exist anymore, it’s dead, buried. We are alive in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:4:
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
This new life is a deliverance and a revelation of truth from God to forever be trusted. Not everybody knows the Lord but you and I are chosen by him. We are chosen to believe in God and given the ability to do so. Again I’m reminded of Peter and his answer to another question from the Lord.
Matthew 16:15-17:
15
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Flesh and blood has not revealed to us that Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God. The Father which is in heaven and the ever residing holy spirit within us from the Father has revealed this to us. Therefore we trust in him through this experiential deliverance and eternal truth within us.
Isaiah 26:4:
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
Trusting worldly things and people is not a wise choice to make. The deliverance by such things are temporal at most. They last as long as they last and then they are gone. God’s gifts are eternal. Through continued deliverance we are assured of his willingness and ability and therefore trust in him to yet deliver us again and again.
Romans 6:23:
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
In reading about trust in the bible you will see the pattern of deliverance throughout the scriptures. Deliverance precedes trust. We have faith in God TO deliver us and we trust in him because he HAS delivered us. We have received deliverance and therefore trust. We trust in a new situation and again are delivered. God is faithful and just and merciful.
2 Samuel 22:1-3:
1
And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
Psalm 9:10:
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Psalm 52:8-9:
8
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
Colossians 1:12-13:
12
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Ephesians 2:4-6:
4
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus
You see the pattern of deliverance. God has already delivered us and will continue to as we trust in him. It’s easier to see in some verses than others but it’s there.
2 Corinthians 1:10:
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
Deliverance precedes trust. Trust paves the way for deliverance. It’s all from God and not our own ability. We have faith in God TO deliver us and we trust in him because he HAS delivered us. We have received deliverance and therefore are able to trust. Where else could we go? For the Lord, the son of the living God, He has the words of eternal life.
Ephesians 2:10:
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Isaiah 26:4:
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
When your faith wavers seek the Lord. Shore up your faith with the trust God has delivered in the gift within you, Christ in you the hope of glory.
Isaiah 26:4:
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
AMEN.
