TIM'S BlOG
August 1, 2011:
When people think about the “perilous times” facing the Church era, they usually envision a time of blatant persecution against Christians in a world gone mad. But the Bible characterizes these last days as a time when the Church goes mad; a time of internal corruption – something far more dangerous than persecution. These verses from Second Timothy do not refer to conditions outside the church but rather within her walls. (As for the world, it has been this way since Adam’s fall!)
2 Timothy 3:1-5:
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
We are living in such times, times marked by seductive teachers broadcasting their deceptive wares.
2 Timothy 3:13:
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
In pulpits around the world, instruction in righteousness is being forsaken in favor of social commentary. Talk of the Lord’s power to reform human life is replaced by talk of the Christian’s duty to reform his society. The reproof and correction that are so necessary to keep us on the straight and narrow road are likened to "hate talk." For that matter, the straight and narrow road itself is considered offensive! All this is happening just as Paul foretold.
2 Timothy 4:3-4:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
The great irony is that the same ministers who consider themselves the vanguards of a new age of spiritual awakening in the Church are the ones most to blame for her sad and anemic condition. At a time when we need to be fortified with sound doctrine, they are the first in line to proclaim that today’s Christian needs something new, something different, a “fresh revelation” of “new wine.” They have no interest in teaching the fundamentals of sound doctrine. They’ve “been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.” Most shameful of all, they pass their disdain for the Word of God on to the rest of their congregation.
The time has come for each minister of the Gospel to determine which side of the prophesies he will embrace. Will he strengthen the church or will he help overthrow the faith of many? Will he be part of the solution or part of the problem?
I want to be part of the solution. It is my desire to give a good account when I stand before the Lord. For this reason, I am happy to announce that the audio presentation of my seminar, The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ, is now online for anyone to stream or download. To the best of my ability, it is a presentation of sound biblical doctrine that will help establish you in the Christian faith.
The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ is a class on the foundational precepts of true Christianity as defined by the Bible. There are seven lessons, each lasting about 25 minutes – a length that is neither too short nor too long. If you will hear and apply the truths that are laid out for you, you will find your spiritual center, your place of rest and refuge on the Rock of Ages, and you will start living the kind of godly and peaceful life that God intended for his children. It is not that I believe that I or my teaching carry some special anointing. God’s anointing is on his Word, and when his Word is honestly held forth, it does a marvelous work in the hearts of all who hear and believe.
On the Workers Together With Him website, you can either press the play button to hear the lesson immediately, or you can download the files to play them on your favorite mp3 device.
Additional links help you in your study of this material. One link has all the Scriptures that are cited in each lesson. This will be useful to people who find it difficult to keep up with me as I travel from verse to verse. There is a link to questions and answers from each lesson, with topics for further group discussion. Finally, there is a link to the e-book editions of The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ, which you can download in three different formats.
All these things are offered FREE and without obligation to me or Workers Together With Him. PLEASE take advantage of this. Feel free to share these teachings with your friends and relations.
The lessons of this seminar are designed to be heard in order, from start to finish. However because the subject of these lessons are so necessary in our day and time, I ask this: even if you cannot muster the interest to listen to the entire seminar, PLEASE listen to Lesson 7, entitled “Eternal Judgment.” Whether or not you know it, and whether or not you like it, we will ALL stand before the throne of God to hear his judgment on our lives. Those who realize this and live accordingly will not be ashamed when they stand before the Lord. This is my desire for myself and for you.
May God bless us all in the name of his holy Son, Jesus,
Reverend Tim Sullivan
